Many users with updates installed sometimes might have software compatibility issues or other problems. If this happens, the easiest way to resolve it is to remove the newly installed windows updates and revert the system to its original state that has no updates.
To remove the updates installed, you can go to control panel and use the remove program feature or use a free utility called Windows XP Update Remover, which will be much more useful.
